Making the Best of a Rainy Day

I find it incredible how the weather  can change so drastically from one day to the next. Two days ago, I was sweating and whining about the unbearable heat. And today I’m crying and shivering from the cold. It’s as if we went back to the horrendous winter. Except now, we have the rain to deal with. yay. I was so miserably bored, stuck in my small apartment all day yesterday. So, seeing as today’s forecast was the same, I prepared some rainy-day activities.

Baking challah and getting up-to-date with Game of Thrones were the first things on my list. Both tasks of equal importance, of course. The baking was going just as planned. However, as I began to braid the dough, my aunt called to invite me for some sushi. Obviously, I couldn’t say “no” to that. I knew it could be an issue letting the braided dough out to rise for too long –but free sushi was WAY more important.

After the early dinner, and forgetting all about my sitting dough, I met up with a friend for some delicious hot chocolate at L.A. Burdick on Newbury St. This is one of my favorite places and ideal for a gloomy day like today. Their cute little home-like store with a rustic and wooden decor transports you to a lovely little warm cabin in the woods. Sitting in this heated cottage, looking out into the rainy street as people and cars passed by, healed what I like to call, the “rain-blues.” While it wasn’t exactly what I had planned, the day turned out pretty good.

P.S. my challah rose a little too much, but I still managed to save it. And Game of Thrones–well I guess I’ll be doing that tonight.
